At Yara Students, we understand that student life can be exciting and rewarding, but it can also bring challenges. Moving away from home, academic pressures, financial worries, loneliness and adjusting to a new environment can sometimes affect your mental health and wellbeing.

Your wellbeing matters to us. If you are struggling, feeling overwhelmed or concerned about a friend, please remember that you are not alone, and support is available.

We encourage all residents to look after their wellbeing, reach out when they need help and seek professional support whenever necessary.

Where to Find Support

1. Student Minds

Website: https://www.studentminds.org.uk/get-support/

Student Minds is a UK student mental health charity offering advice, information and resources to help students navigate the challenges of university life.

You can explore information about managing stress, adjusting to student life, looking after your mental health and finding appropriate support for yourself or someone you care about.

2. Hub of Hope

Website: https://hubofhope.co.uk/

Hub of Hope is a mental health support directory that helps you find relevant services in your local area and across the UK.

You can search for different types of support, including community services, charities, NHS services and other mental health organisations.

3. Your University or Educational Institution

Your university or educational institution may offer confidential student wellbeing services, counselling, mental health advice, disability support and access to specialist services.

Contact your student support team or students’ union to find out what is available to you.

4. Your GP or Healthcare Provider

If you are concerned about your mental health or wellbeing, consider contacting your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional. They can discuss your concerns with you and help you identify suitable treatment or support.

If you are new to the area, you can find information about registering with a local GP through the NHS website.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to the nearest Accident and Emergency department.

How Yara Students Can Help

Our on-site team can listen to your concerns, provide appropriate signposting to support services and help you identify the next steps where possible.

If you are worried about your own wellbeing or that of another resident, you can speak to a member of the site management team. If a student appears to be at immediate risk of harm, staff will follow the appropriate emergency and safeguarding procedures.

Please remember that our accommodation team does not replace professional medical or mental health services. Where specialist support is needed, we will encourage residents to contact an appropriate healthcare provider or support organisation.

Looking After Your Wellbeing

Small steps can sometimes help you manage the pressures of student life. You may find it helpful to:

  • Keep in touch with friends, family or people you trust.
  • Maintain a regular sleep routine and eat balanced meals.
  • Take breaks from studying and make time for activities you enjoy.
  • Stay active and spend time outside when possible.
  • Connect with other residents and participate in social activities.
  • Reach out for support when things feel difficult rather than waiting until they become overwhelming.

Everyone’s experience is different. You do not need to wait until you are struggling severely before asking for help.

Supporting a Friend

If you are concerned about another student, take time to listen without judgement and encourage them to seek appropriate support. You do not need to have all the answers.

If you believe someone is at immediate risk of harm, contact the emergency services and notify the site management team where appropriate.

Remember

Your wellbeing matters. Asking for help is a positive step, and you do not have to face difficult times alone.

Yara Students encourages all residents to make use of the support resources listed above and to contact the relevant professional service when they need help.
